A Chicago Bulls jersey worn by Michael Jordan during the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $14 million, setting a new record for basketball memorabilia, according to Hunt Auctions.
The red jersey, worn during Game 2 against the Utah Jazz, was purchased in a private sale by Miami real estate investor Ron Firman, The Guardian reported.
Jordan wore the jersey as the Bulls defeated the Jazz to level the championship series at 1-1. Chicago went on to claim the title in six games, securing Jordan's sixth and final NBA championship.
Hunt Auctions President David Hunt said Jordan's significance in the sports memorabilia market had long been established, describing how collectibles had developed into an "elite asset class" comparable to iconic works of art.
The $14 million transaction marks the highest reported price for basketball memorabilia and the second-highest known price for a game-worn jersey across sports.
The overall record remains with a Babe Ruth jersey from the 1932 World Series, which sold for $24.12 million in 2024.
Items linked to Jordan's final championship season have continued to attract substantial prices, with his Game 1 jersey from the 1998 Finals selling for approximately $10.1 million in 2022.
Another jersey worn during Game 3 of the same series fetched around $12.3 million at auction last month, further highlighting demand for memorabilia from the Bulls' championship run.
Jordan's final season with Chicago was documented in "The Last Dance," which became a global hit following its Netflix release in 2020.
