Besiktas has signed Nigerian defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, aiming to fill a long-standing gap in the team’s midfield with his energy, aggressiveness, and ability to contribute in both defense and attack.
The 27-year-old has built a reputation in the Premier League for his consistency and defensive discipline. Despite standing at 1.83 meters (5.9 feet), Ndidi dominates aerial duels, excels in tackles, and is regarded as one of the league’s best at breaking up opposition play.
At Leicester, Ndidi averaged more than 8 tackles and over 2.5 interceptions per game, highlighting his ball-winning qualities.
Ndidi is also capable of quickly transitioning play after regaining possession, favoring simple but fast passes to launch attacks. His partnership with Orkun Kokcu is expected to boost tempo in midfield while adding defensive security.
Known for sustaining high energy over 90 minutes, Ndidi is expected to ease the burden on defenders, add resilience to midfield, and stop counterattacks—attributes that the Besiktas technical staff have been eager to secure.
Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, Ndidi said, “Before coming to Türkiye, I did not speak to anyone. I just went online to check the city, the club, its history, and players. I already knew Abraham from the Premier League. When Besiktas made the offer, I was impressed and wanted to come immediately.”
