The ongoing tension between Besiktas and Portuguese midfielder Rafa Silva has now reached an international dimension. The club has announced that it will take the matter to FIFA after the player continued to skip training sessions, according to Turkish media outlet Hurriyet.

Rafa Silva has missed recent training sessions, citing back pain. Club officials requested that he undergo an MRI scan at a hospital to confirm any injury. The scan results, however showed no evidence of a medical issue. Despite this, Silva again failed to attend yesterday’s training.

Earlier, Silva’s agent reportedly offered Besiktas a proposal: “Release the player for €3 million.” The club rejected the offer. Following the refusal, Silva announced that he would remain with the team, but he has continued to abstain from training.

Club’s legal measures

Besiktas management asserts that Silva has not fulfilled his contractual obligations. A notary was called to Nevzat Demir Facilities, where an official record was made documenting the player’s absence from training. The club confirmed that it plans to file an official complaint with FIFA.

Kaan Kasaci, a member of the club’s Football Committee, stated: “Even though the player has no outstanding financial claims from the club, legal action will be taken against him for failing to meet his responsibilities.”

Besiktas President Serdal Adali acknowledged the player’s dissatisfaction but emphasized that the club’s contractual terms remain valid. Head coach Sergen Yalcin added that Silva has effectively disconnected from the team.

Potential transfer resolution with Benfica

Another report from Turkiye daily, indicates that Rafa Silva may be seeking a return to Benfica. Although Besiktas has not yet initiated official talks with the Portuguese club, a potential solution is reportedly being considered for the mid-season transfer window.

Besiktas had initially aimed to secure a transfer fee from the departure of Rafa Silva. A new proposal has reportedly been suggested in which the club could enter negotiations with Benfica to offset outstanding debts from previous transfers, including those of Gedson Fernandes and Orkun Kokcu, instead of requesting a direct transfer fee.

Under this proposed arrangement, Besiktas would release Silva without receiving a transfer fee, while Benfica would agree to reduce the debts owed to the Turkish club. Early reports indicate that Benfica is likely to respond positively to this proposal, potentially allowing for an amicable resolution during the mid-season transfer window.
