Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Turkish midfielder Arda Guler to extend his contract until 2031, according to a report by Madrid-based sports daily AS published Monday.
The 21-year-old's current contract runs until 2029. The two-year extension would be his first renewal since joining Real Madrid and would keep him at the club for at least five more years, the report said. It added that the new agreement includes a salary increase.
After the report, German football database website Transfermarkt updated Guler's market value to € 100 million ($112 million) from €90 million.
Guler has started five matches this season under coach Jose Mourinho. Last season, he made 40 starts and finished the campaign with six goals and a team-high 14 assists.
He joined Real Madrid from Istanbul-based Fenerbahce in 2023 and is in his fourth season with the Spanish side. Guler also scored in Türkiye's 3-1 win over Georgia at UEFA Euro 2024, where the national team reached the quarterfinals.
AS said Real Madrid view Guler as an important player now and in the future. It added that coaches who have worked with him at the club have highlighted his quality and potential for further development.
Mourinho also spoke about Guler's influence on the team.
"For me, his playing quality is incredible: the vision, the decision-making, the organization of play, the stability he gives the team, the creation," Mourinho said.
He added: "He is a player with fantastic potential who already has very interesting numbers, and they are not only assists and goals. They come from a deeper analysis. He's a young man who has a great influence."
