The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has appointed former English referee Anthony Taylor as Elite Referee Director of the Central Refereeing Committee, or MHK.

Taylor will oversee the technical development of Türkiye's top-level referees while helping to strengthen performance assessment, training, match analysis and feedback systems.

Taylor to shape referee development strategy

According to the federation, Taylor will plan development programs for elite referees and help draw up training initiatives aimed at improving their technical performance.

He will also lead the preparation of broader referee development strategies in line with UEFA and FIFA standards.

Experience across major international competitions

Taylor spent many years as a senior referee within the English Football Association system and held a FIFA badge from 2013.

During his career, he took charge of matches at the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championship, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Nations League and FIFA Club World Cup.

His major international assignments included the 2022-23 UEFA Europa League final, the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup final, the 2021 UEFA Nations League final and the 2020 UEFA Super Cup final.

In English football, Taylor also refereed the 2015 EFL Cup final, the 2015 FA Community Shield, the 2017 and 2020 FA Cup finals, and the 2018 Championship play-off final.

Retirement followed final World Cup assignment

Taylor retired at the age of 47 following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His final match was the round-of-16 meeting between Spain and Portugal, after which he moved into his new referee development position with the TFF.
