Reigning champions Türkiye extends unbeaten EuroVolley run with 3-1 win over Slovenia

Türkiye's women's national volleyball team defeated Slovenia 3-1 on Sunday to claim its second Pool A victory at the CEV Women's European Volleyball Championship in Istanbul, extending its unbeaten start to the title defense.

Türkiye won 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16 at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, following an opening 3-0 victory over Latvia on Friday.

Melissa Vargas led Türkiye with 19 points, while Ilkin Aydin added 13 and Zehra Gunes contributed 12. Masa Pucelj was Slovenia's top scorer with 17 points.

Türkiye opened the tournament with a straight-set win over Latvia at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall on Friday, taking the match 25-17, 25-16, 25-16.

Slovenia level match before Türkiye pulls away in decider

Türkiye took control by winning the opening set 25-21, but Slovenia responded in the second, leveling the match with a 25-22 victory.

The reigning European champions regained momentum in the third set, winning 25-17, before closing out the match 25-16 in the fourth.

Hosts chase Olympic ticket as group stage continues

The tournament, officially called the Trendyol 2026 CEV Women's European Volleyball Championship, is being co-hosted by Türkiye, Czechia, Azerbaijan and Sweden, with Istanbul staging Pool A matches as well as the medal rounds. Türkiye, ranked third in the FIVB World Ranking, is defending the title it won for the first time in 2023.

The winner of this year's tournament will earn Europe's first berth at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, along with three places at the 2027 FIVB World Cup.

Türkiye will next face Hungary in its third Pool A match on Monday at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, with the top four teams in each six-team pool advancing to the round of 16.
