Several roads in Marmaris will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic on Sunday, June 7, as L'Etape Marmaris by Tour de France brings amateur cyclists onto the resort town's roads under controlled safety measures.
The race, part of the official amateur series of the Tour de France, will take place on routes passing through Marmaris center and surrounding districts. Authorities advised residents and visitors to plan their journeys around the closures and use alternative routes where possible.
Road closures are expected to be in place between around 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., but they will not cover the whole course at the same time. Instead, traffic will be held up in stages as cyclists pass through, and roads will be reopened gradually after the race convoy moves on.
The race will start from Ataturk Avenue and finish in central Marmaris. Cyclists will take part in either a 65.8-kilometer short course or a 96.8-kilometer long course.
Authorities asked drivers and pedestrians to follow the instructions of traffic officers and stay out of security zones set up along the race route.
The temporary traffic measures will affect several key roads and areas, including Ataturk Avenue, Ulusal Egemenlik Avenue, Mustafa Kemal Pasa Boulevard, Yeni Datca Road, Hisaronu, Orhaniye, Turgut, Selimiye, Bozburun, Sogut, Bayir, Osmaniye, Icmeler, Cumhuriyet Boulevard, Ataturk Square and 19 Mayis Youth Square.
After the split point at Bayir Junction, cyclists on the longer route will continue through Selimiye, Bayir and Osmaniye before heading back to Marmaris.
L'Etape by Tour de France is the official amateur cycling series organized under the Tour de France brand by Amaury Sport Organisation, known as ASO. It gives amateur riders the chance to experience a race atmosphere inspired by one of the world's best-known cycling events.
This year marks the first time L'Etape by Tour de France is being held in Marmaris. Hundreds of cyclists from Türkiye and abroad are expected to ride through the town's coastal and rural landscapes.
The race is being carried out under the coordination of the Mugla Governor's Office, with support from local authorities, ministries, security units, health teams and the Turkish Cycling Federation. The Türkiye organization is being run by 78 Events.
Alongside the race, the three-day program includes an expo area, a public ride, brand experience zones and other activities.
Organizers say detailed updates on road closures and alternative routes will be shared through the official communication channels of Marmaris authorities and the event.
