Brazilian football legends Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo Nazario are moving forward with plans to buy Inter de Limeira, the current leader of Serie C, the third tier of Brazil's national football league system.
Roberto Carlos confirmed that the proposed takeover would also bring in an investor named Enrico and two additional partners, one from Africa and another from the Arab world.
The former Brazil international said the group intends to use the acquisition to channel investment back into regional football while strengthening Inter de Limeira's sporting, financial and administrative structure.
"Ronaldo and I, together with Enrico, as well as two investment partners, one African and one Arab, are buying Inter de Limeira. Our goal is to reinvest in regional football. In this way, these clubs will not only bring talented players into the Brazil national team, but will also be restructured institutionally," Roberto Carlos said.
The investors are expected to focus particularly on building up the club's youth development system and creating a more sustainable institutional structure.
No financial information regarding the planned acquisition has been released, and the parties have not yet announced when the deal could be formally completed.
However, Roberto Carlos' statement indicates that negotiations have moved into an advanced stage.
