National billiard player Tayfun Tasdemir finished third after a 50-48 semifinal loss to Vietnam's Phuong Vinh Bao at the three-cushion billiards world championship.
According to the Türkiye Billiards Federation, Tasdemir reached the semifinal by beating Germany's Martin Horn 50-23 in the quarterfinal of the tournament, held in Blois.
The 2026 UMB World Three-Cushion Championship ran from Sept. 23 to 27 in Blois, organized by the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB).
The tournament opened with a group stage of 16 groups of three players each, with the top two from every group advancing to a single-elimination knockout round. Group matches were played to 40 points and knockout matches to 50 points, both without an equalizing inning in the knockout stage.
Three-cushion billiards is a carom discipline in which the cue ball must contact at least three cushions before striking the second object ball for a point to count.
Tasdemir previously won the individual world title in 2022 in Donghae City, South Korea, defeating Spain's Ruben Legazpi in the final.
Bao, his semifinal opponent in Blois, won the 2023 world title in Ankara, where Tasdemir also reached the podium.
Tasdemir also holds two World Cup titles, won in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in 2015 and in Antalya, Türkiye, in 2019.
