Trabzonspor has taken a key step toward strengthening their defense after reaching a principal agreement with Norwegian left-back Mathias Lovik, who has now arrived in the Black Sea city to complete the next stages of his move.
The 22-year-old defender was greeted by Trabzonspor supporters at Trabzon Airport, underlining the importance fans place on new arrivals at the club. Speaking after his arrival, Lovik played down the formality of the moment while stressing how eager he is to get started and link up with the supporters as soon as possible.
He recalled visiting the city previously with Molde during the COVID-19 period, when stadium capacity was restricted.
This time, he pointed out, the prospect of playing in front of a full stadium of around 40,000 supporters has raised his excitement, describing it as something he has been looking forward to since talks began.
Lovik explained that discussions with Trabzonspor focused heavily on expectations and long-term planning rather than short-term details.
According to the Norwegian player, the club laid out its sporting vision and what it expects from him on the pitch, a project he found convincing and motivating. He underlined that this clarity made him keen to begin work immediately and contribute to the team’s objectives.
The defender also confirmed his close friendship with fellow Norwegian Daniel Karlsbakk, another player linked with Trabzonspor, while acknowledging that football transfers remain unpredictable. Playing together at club level, he said, would feel like a dream scenario, though he accepted that outcomes are never guaranteed in professional football.
Lovik has previous experience against Turkish teams, having faced Galatasaray in European competition, and noted that the passion of Turkish supporters left a lasting impression on him.
Even without playing against Trabzonspor at the time, he said the atmosphere alone was enough to leave him with goosebumps, making his upcoming match in a packed stadium all the more appealing.
At Trabzonspor, Lovik will wear the number 14 shirt. While naturally a left-back, he confirmed that he is also capable of filling in on the right side of defense if required. He described himself as a technical player who looks to support the team at both ends of the pitch, contributing defensively while also helping to build attacks.
Looking ahead, Lovik identified wearing the national team shirt as his biggest personal ambition.
However, he stressed that his immediate focus remains on giving his best for Trabzonspor, believing that strong performances at the club level are the foundation for any future international opportunities. He concluded by expressing hope that his time at the club will be marked by shared success and lasting memories.
