Türkiye's national boxing team arrived in Istanbul after winning 10 medals at the 2026 European Boxing Championship in Bulgaria, the country's best result in the competition's history.
The team was welcomed with flowers at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, Istanbul's second international airport, on its return from Bulgaria.
Held for the first time with combined men's and women's competitions, the championship saw Türkiye win four gold, one silver and five bronze medals.
The team placed second overall behind Russia in the combined rankings.
Busenaz Surmeneli, one of four gold medalists, said the team delivered strong results. "We put in very good performances. Let this be a sign of what is coming in 2028," she said.
Havvanur Kethuda, who also won gold, said she competes for the top medal at every international tournament. "I fight for the gold medal at every international tournament I attend," she said.
Hatice Akbas, another gold medalist, said the team is looking ahead to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after a partial result at the Paris Games. "Our goal is to complete the story that was left unfinished in Paris," she said.
In the men's competition, Emrah Yasar won gold at 90 kilograms, defeating Spain's Enmanuel Reyes Pla by unanimous decision. It was his first senior European title. "There is a World Championship in 2027. We want the title there as well," he said.
