A luxury watch and two rings belonging to Türkiye’s national defender Merih Demiral have been recovered only hours after they went missing following the national team’s 2-2 draw against Spain in Seville in the 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers.
According to information from police sources in Seville, Demiral noticed the items were no longer with him as the Turkish squad headed to the airport after the match at La Cartuja Stadium. He immediately informed officials from the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), who then contacted the Spanish Football Federation’s security team.
A detailed search inside the locker room did not reveal the missing items. Demiral’s lawyer subsequently filed a formal complaint with Spanish police, which triggered coordinated work between officers and the stadium’s private security personnel.
Officials stated that within a few hours, the player’s luxury watch — valued at €90,000 (over $104,000) — and two rings, estimated at €60,000 (over $69,000), including one believed to be a wedding band, were successfully located. The items will be returned to the player once formal procedures are completed.
Spain’s National Police confirmed that they are treating the incident as a possible theft. Investigators are working to determine how the valuables went missing and to identify any potential suspects.
