Turkish Grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus has climbed to 32nd place in the latest International Chess Federation (FIDE) world classical rankings and achieved the highest position of his career according to the May 2026 rating list.
The 14-year-old prodigy began the season ranked 56th in the world with an Elo rating of 2658. In the latest update, he improved his rating to 2708 and made a significant leap in the global standings, entering the top 32 players worldwide.
A key result in his recent rise came during the “Clash of Generations III” tournament, where Erdogmus defeated former world champion Veselin Topalov by a score of 5–1. With this performance, he became the youngest player in chess history to surpass the 2700 Elo rating threshold.
He isn't the only Turkish talent making noise in the top 100. Fellow Grandmaster Ediz Gurel continues his strong run as well, holding the 79th spot globally with a 2641 Elo.
