Turkish judokas finished a successful weekend by winning three medals, showing the country’s progress in different weight categories. Athletes took part in both the European Youth Cup in Portimao, Portugal, and the Upper Grand Prix in Linz, Austria.
The Turkish Judo Federation confirmed these results.
At the European Youth Cup in Portimao, Türkiye started strong on the first day. Mustafa Berat Simsek won gold in the under-66 kilogram category by beating Italy’s Antonio Esposito in the final.
In the women’s under-78-kilogram final, Hayrun Nisa Ardic faced Spain’s Mama Coulibaly Toure. Ardic put up a strong fight but finished with a silver medal.
Türkiye also hosted a competition at home. The European Youth Judo Cup took place in Antalya, organized by the European Judo Union and the Turkish Judo Federation.
The event was held at Antalya Sports Hall in memory of Nazim Canca, honoring his contributions to Turkish judo.
Elcin Karakazan reached the final in the 40-kilogram category but lost to Uzbekistan’s Iroda Sirojiddinova, taking silver. Her teammate Havva Sena Tokmak also competed in this weight class and won bronze by beating Azerbaijan’s Sunay Salamova.
Türkiye sent 108 athletes to the Antalya event, which featured 550 competitors from 21 countries, including 222 women. The tournament was scheduled to end on Sunday.
In Linz, Austria, Bilal Ciloglu competed for Türkiye in the under-73-kilogram category at the Upper Grand Prix Tournament. He reached the final but lost to Great Britain’s Ethan Nairne, earning a silver medal.
