English football club Hull City, owned by Turkish media figure and former Fenerbahce vice president Acun Ilicali, booked a place in the Championship play-off final after beating Millwall F.C. 2-0 away on Monday.
After a goalless first leg, Hull City travelled to The Den for the return fixture and secured their place in the final with second-half goals, moving one step closer to a place in the Premier League.
Neither side managed to break the deadlock during the opening half of the Championship play-off semi-final second leg at The Den Stadium.
Hull City eventually broke through after Belloumi, who had come on in first-half stoppage time to replace the injured Joseph, put the visitors ahead in the 64th minute.
The Tigers then built on their advantage in the closing stages, with Gelhardt doubling the lead in the 79th minute. The 24-year-old striker scored for the 15th time this season to help seal Hull City’s progression.
Managed by Sergej Jakirovic, Hull City saw out the remaining minutes without conceding and advanced to the Championship play-off final.
The club will face the winner of the semi-final between Southampton F.C. and Middlesbrough F.C. for a place in the Premier League.
The final is scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 23.
