Juventus secured a 4-1 victory over Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in a Club World Cup Group G match on Sunday, with Turkish winger Kenan Yildiz delivering a standout performance.
The match at Lincoln Financial Field saw Juventus capitalize early, opening the scoring in the sixth minute when a shot from Yildiz deflected off Wydad defender Ayoub Boutouil for an own goal, according to FIFA.
Yildiz doubled the lead in the 16th minute with a precise finish inside the box. Wydad responded in the 25th minute as Thembinkosi Lorch fired past Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to cut the deficit to 2-1..
In the second half, Yildiz struck again in the 69th minute, calmly slotting home his second of the night to restore Juventus’ two-goal advantage. Dusan Vlahovic converted a penalty in the 90th minute to seal the win.
Yildiz, 19, was named Player of the Match after scoring twice and helping Juventus advance to the next round. Wydad, who lost their opening match 2-0 to Manchester City, were eliminated from the tournament.
Having already defeated Emirati side Al Ain 5-0 in their opening match, Juventus have now scored nine goals and collected the maximum six points after two outings in Group G.
Their qualification for the knockout stage will be secured if group rivals Manchester City avoid defeat against Al Ain later Sunday.
That puts Igor Tudor's side in an excellent position heading into their final group match Thursday against Manchester City in Orlando.
"I'm happy. It was not easy. It was hot, but it was a good win. At the end our quality came out," Tudor told broadcaster DAZN after the match. He also praised Yildiz’s performance.
"He has great potential. He has a lot of skills, but more important than skills is his brain — that is the key," Tudor said. "A wonderful player, so there is a big future in front of him."
