Benfica held Sporting Lisbon to a tense 1-1 draw in the Lisbon derby on Saturday, with Turkish star Kerem Akturkoglu’s equalizer taking the Portuguese title race to the final day.

The match at Estadio da Luz saw Sporting take an early lead in the 4th minute thanks to Francisco Trincao’s goal. The first half ended with Sporting holding onto that lead.

Benfica equalized in the 63rd minute through Turkish star Kerem Akturkoglu, but despite their efforts, they could not find a winning goal, and the match concluded 1-1.

Head to head clash

Both sides are tied on 79 points with one match remaining, with reigning champions Sporting set to triumph if they finish level, boasting a superior head-to-head record.

Benfica and Sporting both had the chance to clinch the title on Saturday at Estadio da Luz, but their draw means the fate of the Primeira Liga will be decided on May 17.

Trincao put Rui Borges' Sporting ahead in the fourth minute, but Kerem Akturkoglu levelled after 63 minutes following a brilliant run from Vangelis Pavlidis.

Bruno Lage's Benfica will visit Braga on the final day, while Sporting will host Vitoria and retain their crown should they equal or better their title rival's result.
