Türkiye's senior women's national basketball team defeated Portugal 56-44 on August 14, 2026, the second meeting between the two sides as part of preparations for the FIBA Women's World Cup 2026 in Berlin.
The game saw Türkiye take control early. The national team, fielding a starting five of Elif Istanbulluoglu, Sevgi Uzun, Alperi Onar, Sinem Atas and Esra Ural, opened with a 14-2 run in the first quarter and extended the advantage to 28-11 by halftime.
Türkiye carried a commanding 45-24 lead into the fourth quarter before closing out the 56-44 victory, according to a statement from the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF).
The match was watched by senior TBF officials, including federation president Hidayet Turkoglu, vice president Harun Erdenay, board members Mustafa Sarimermer, Gulsah Akkaya, Bahar Caglar Okten and Ali Turkmen, and secretary general Serhan Antalyali.
The victory over Portugal is part of a broader preparation schedule for Türkiye ahead of the FIBA Women's World Cup, which will be held in Berlin, Germany, from September 4-13, 2026. The tournament is held every four years and brings together national teams from around the world to compete for the world championship title.
Before traveling to Berlin, Türkiye will play two further preparation matches against the Czech Republic on August 22 and 23. The team will then move to Cologne, Germany, where it is scheduled to face the German national team twice, on August 26 and 27, in additional exhibition matches.
