Türkiye's national women's basketball team is set to appear at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup for the third time, ending an eight-year absence from the tournament.
The team will compete at the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany, from Sept. 4 to 13.
Türkiye first took part in the World Cup in 2014, finishing fourth in what remains the team's best result. The side finished 10th at the 2018 edition and did not qualify for the 2022 tournament.
Türkiye reached its highest World Cup finish in 2014, the team's first appearance in the tournament.
As co-hosts, the team was drawn into Group B alongside France, Canada and Mozambique. Türkiye won all of its group matches in the capital, Ankara, finishing first and advancing directly to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinal, held in Istanbul, Türkiye defeated Serbia 62-61 to reach the semifinals. The team then lost to Spain 66-56 in the semifinal and to Australia 74-44 in the bronze medal match, finishing fourth.
Türkiye's most recent World Cup appearance, in 2018, did not match the level of the team's 2014 performance.
The tournament was held in Tenerife, a Spanish island off the coast of northwest Africa, where Türkiye was drawn into Group B with Australia, Nigeria and Argentina.
Türkiye won a single group match and finished third in the group, advancing to the elimination round. The team was eliminated after a 78-61 loss to France, finishing 10th in the tournament.
Türkiye's women's national basketball team has played 457 official matches since its debut against West Germany in Munich in 1964.
Of those matches, the team has won 268 and lost 189.
