Türkiye’s national athletes set three national records across marathon and half-marathon race walking events at the World Race Walking Team Championships in Brazil.
The championship, held in Brazil’s capital Brasilia, brought together national teams competing in race walking—a track and field discipline where athletes must maintain constant ground contact and a straightened leading leg. According to the Turkish Athletics Federation, Türkiye was represented by 13 athletes across multiple categories.
In the women’s marathon race walk, Ayse Aslan finished 13th with a time of 3:48:48, setting a new national record. In the same event, Kader Guvenc placed 18th, while Esma Oztekin did not complete the race.
Türkiye’s record-breaking run continued in the half-marathon race walk events. In the women’s category, Meryem Bekmez secured 22nd place with a time of 1:41:30, establishing another national record.
In the men’s half-marathon race walk, Mazlum Demir set a national record with a time of 1:31:58, finishing 28th. He was followed closely by Salih Korkmaz, who placed 29th with a time of 1:32:15.
In the men’s marathon race walk, Ozan Bayram and Harun Bilir were unable to finish, while Diyar Bayram was disqualified from the event.
At the youth level, performances reflected steady participation. In the women’s under-20 10-kilometer race walk, Serife Berra Guven finished 17th and Ipek Ozkavlak placed 30th, with the national team ranking eighth overall with 47 points.
Meanwhile, in the men’s under-20 10-kilometer event, Azadullah Begce secured 22nd place, rounding out Türkiye’s representation at the championships.
