Turkish athletes earned 3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals in swimming and wrestling. The national teams also won their volleyball and football matches.
Emre Sakci took gold in the men's 50-meter breaststroke final, finishing in 27.24 seconds. His teammate Nusret Allahverdi earned bronze in the same race in 27.39 seconds.
Turkish wrestlers earned five medals in the men's freestyle competition, including two golds. Ahmet Duman won the 65-kilogram final by defeating Albania's Zelimkhan Abakarov 4-2. Hakan Buyukcingil took gold in the 125-kilogram category after beating Egypt's Abdelrahman Sheyata.
Ismail Kucuksolak earned silver in the 86-kilogram final after losing to Greece's Georgios Kougiomtsidis. Yasin Yesil (74 kilograms) and Resul Gune (97 kilograms) both won their third-place matches to claim bronze medals.
Since Muhammet Karavus had already won gold in the 57-kilogram category the previous day, Türkiye earned medals in all six men's freestyle wrestling weight classes at the games. In total, the team collected 3 golds, 1 silver, and 2 bronzes in this discipline.
Türkiye's men's national volleyball team started Group B with a 3-1 victory over Egypt, winning by set scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-17, and 25-17. Their next group match will be against Kosovo.
Türkiye's under-20 national football team beat North Macedonia 3-0 in their second Group A match at Nuovarredo Arena. Ozcan scored all three goals, finding the net in the 26th, 41st, and 60th minutes to complete a hat-trick.
The result followed a 2-2 draw with Morocco in the team's opening match, bringing Türkiye's total to 4 points in the group. The squad will play its final group match against Tunisia on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 11:30 a.m. local time.
