Türkiye's national women's basketball team defeated Lithuania 99-87 on Sunday in a classification game at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025, securing 7th place and qualification for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
In a high-scoring contest at the Peace and Friendship Stadium, Türkiye started strong behind Sevgi Uzun’s offensive performance and led the first quarter 26-21. Applying full-court pressure, the Turkish side forced turnovers early in the second period and extended the lead to 13 points (34-21). Lithuania responded with key baskets from Jocyte and Juskaite but trailed 52-46 at halftime.
Lithuania came out aggressive in the second half, taking a brief five-point lead midway through the third quarter (63-58). However, Türkiye answered with a 7-0 run and regained momentum. Despite Lithuania entering the final quarter ahead 74-73, Türkiye pulled away in the fourth, led by clutch plays from Alperi Onar and three-point shooting that widened the gap in the closing minutes.
Sevgi Uzun and McCowan led Türkiye with 22 points each, while Juskaite (26 pts) and Jocyte (23 pts) paced Lithuania.
The victory secures Türkiye a place in the qualification rounds for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
