Türkiye's men's national basketball team is now ranked ninth in FIBA's latest world rankings, which were released after the fourth round of the 2027 World Cup European Qualifiers, according to FIBA.
Türkiye now has 808.1 points in the updated rankings. The United States stays at number one with 952.3 points, followed by Germany with 877.4 and France with 870.9.
In FIBA's Smart Power Rankings, which track performance during World Cup qualifying, Türkiye ranked first in Europe after winning its first two games of the Second Round and keeping an 8-0 record.
This result made Türkiye the first European team to qualify for next year's tournament in Qatar, even though four qualifying games remain.
Türkiye boosted its standing in the latest round by beating Lithuania 94-66 and Iceland 110-73. The team won both games without NBA forward Alperen Sengun, which FIBA said shows the squad's depth.
Türkiye's best World Cup result was in 2010, when the team reached the final at home and took the silver medal.
In the Smart Power Rankings, France ranks second with a 7-1 record. Germany, the current world champions, moved up two spots to third, also at 7-1, after beating Poland and giving them their first qualifier loss.
Serbia fell one spot to fourth, even though they won both games in this round and are now 6-2. Croatia moved up to fifth at 7-1 after beating the Netherlands 101-99. FIBA pointed out that Croatia is the first team in World Cup qualifying history, in any region, to score at least 100 points in four straight games.
Poland dropped two spots to sixth after their first loss of the campaign. Ukraine climbed three places to seventh with two wins, making their record 6-2. Spain fell to eighth at 5-3 after losing both games in this round.
Italy and Finland are next in ninth and tenth, both at 5-3. Georgia made the biggest jump in the top 20, moving up five spots to 11th after winning both games to reach 5-3. FIBA praised Georgia for its balanced play.
Greece is in 12th place, ahead of Lithuania, Portugal, and Slovenia. Slovenia moved up five spots after beating Hungary and cutting a deficit of over 30 points to single digits in a loss to France.
FIBA said the Smart Power Rankings are subjective and not an official ranking system.
The next qualifying round will take place in November, with the final round scheduled for February and March 2027.
In the European Second Round, 24 teams are split into four groups, and the top three teams in each group will qualify for the World Cup.
The 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup is set for Qatar from Aug. 27 to Sept. 12, 2027.
