Türkiye national volleyball player Ebrar Karakurt has been left out of the current squad after medical teams determined that she has not yet completed the process required for a safe return to the court, the Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) announced.
The federation said examinations carried out after Karakurt reported pain at the beginning of the national team camp detected bone marrow edema and increased fluid in the sacroiliac joint, which connects the lower spine to the pelvis.
According to a joint statement by the TVF and Eczacibasi Sports Club, Karakurt initially completed a period of rest before moving on to physiotherapy and a controlled return-to-court program.
Her condition was subsequently assessed through clinical assessments and control imaging.
The results were reviewed jointly by the medical teams of Türkiye's senior women's national volleyball team, widely known as the "Sultans of the Net," and Eczacibasi.
The joint assessment found a clear improvement in Karakurt's condition, although medical staff concluded that the process needed for her to safely return to competitive action had not yet been completed.
"While significant improvement has been observed in the current findings, it has been concluded that the athlete's safe return-to-court process has not yet been completed," the statement said.
As a result, the national team and Eczacibasi medical staffs agreed that Karakurt would not be included in the current squad, with the decision taken in consideration of her health.
