Galatasaray advanced to the UEFA Champions League last 16 despite a 3-2 away defeat to Juventus, securing their place on aggregate and adding to Türkiye’s UEFA country coefficient.

The Turkish champions had won the first leg 5-2 in Istanbul. Juventus led 3-0 at the end of 90 minutes in Turin, forcing extra time at Allianz Stadium.

Galatasaray responded with goals from Victor Osimhen and Baris Alper Yilmaz to bring the score to 3-2 on the night. The result gave the Istanbul side a 7-5 aggregate advantage and a place in the next round.

Galatasaray will face either Liverpool or Tottenham in the last 16.

How Galatasaray’s qualification affects Türkiye’s UEFA points

Galatasaray’s qualification to the last 16 brought additional points to Türkiye’s overall coefficient.

Because the match ended in defeat after 120 minutes, Türkiye did not receive an extra match result point. However, advancing to the next round added 1.5 points to Galatasaray’s team coefficient.

That progression translated into a 0.3 point increase for Türkiye in the country rankings.

Elsewhere in the playoff round, Atalanta, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid also secured last-16 places. Real Madrid defeated Benfica 2-1 at Santiago Bernabeu.

Turkish international Arda Guler started the match and left the pitch in the 84th minute. The previous day, Bodo Glimt, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United, and Bayer Leverkusen also advanced.
