Türkiye’s national football team lost 4-1 to Italy on Monday in its second match in Group 1 of UEFA Nations League A.
Türkiye reduced the deficit in the 47th minute. Oguz Aydin received the ball inside the penalty area and sent it across the six-yard box, where Baris Alper Yilmaz finished into the net to make it 3-1.
Italy scored its fourth goal in the 50th minute. Sandro Tonali received the ball near the edge of the penalty area and struck it with the inside of his foot. After the ball came back off the post, Francesco Pio Esposito headed it into the net to make it 4-1.
Türkiye missed a clear chance in the 80th minute. Arda Guler dribbled into the penalty area and laid the ball off to Demir Ege Tiknaz, who sent a low pass to Kerem Akturkoglu in front of the six-yard box. Kerem’s close-range shot went over the bar.
Italy won the match 4-1.
Türkiye head coach Vincenzo Montella made four changes, one of them compulsory, to the starting 11 compared with the team’s previous match against France.
Montella gave Altay Bayindir a chance in goal in place of suspended goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.
He also named Ozan Kabak, Eren Elmali and Orkun Kokcu in the starting lineup, with Abdulkerim Bardakci, Ferdi Kadioglu and Ismail Yuksek moving to the bench.
Türkiye started with Altay Bayindir, Zeki Celik, Merih Demiral, Ozan Kabak, Eren Elmali, Salih Ozcan, Orkun Kokcu, Oguz Aydin, Arda Guler, Can Uzun and Baris Alper Yilmaz.
Muhammed Sengezer, Okan Kocuk, Samet Akaydin, Kerem Akturkoglu, Demir Ege Tiknaz, Deniz Gul, Abdulkerim Bardakci, Ismail Yuksek, Irfan Can Kahveci, Yunus Akgun, Ferdi Kadioglu and Mustafa Eskihellac were among the substitutes.
In addition to suspended Ugurcan Cakir, Adil Demirbag, Aral Simsir, Emirhan Topcu, Ilhan Fakili and Bartug Elmaz were not included in the match squad for the Crescent-Stars.
Orkun Kokcu, who missed the France match because of injury, started against Italy.
Orkun had not taken part in Türkiye’s first training sessions because of a toe injury but trained with the team in its final practice.
Fans showed strong interest in Türkiye’s match against Italy in Bursa.
The stands were completely full hours before kickoff.
