Türkiye to face Austria in Euro 2024 round of 16 clash

The Turkish national football team will face Austria in the Round of 16 match of the 2024 UEFA European Championship (Euro 2024) on Tuesday. Hosted by Germany, Türkiye secured their place as the second-place team in Group F with two wins and one loss, aiming to advance to the quarterfinals by defeating Austria in Leipzig.

The match kicks off at 10 p.m. Turkish time and will be officiated by Portuguese referee Artur Soares Dias.

Türkiye will be without captain Hakan Calhanoglu and Samet Akaydin due to suspensions, but Abdulkerim Bardakci, whose suspension has ended, will be eligible to play.

Austria, topping Group D with six points, will miss midfielder Patrick Wimmer due to suspension after receiving his second yellow card against the Netherlands.

This encounter marks the 18th meeting between Türkiye and Austria's national teams. In their previous 17 matches, Austria has secured nine wins while Türkiye has won seven times, with just one match ending in a draw. Across these encounters, including 10 official and seven friendly matches, Türkiye has scored 23 goals compared to Austria's 24.

In their last encounter on March 26, 2024, in Vienna, Austria won 6-1 against Türkiye in a preparation match, marking their largest victory over Türkiye to date.
