Türkiye women's basketball team begins World Cup preparations

Türkiye's women's national basketball team has started preparations for the FIBA 2026 Women's Basketball World Cup, set to take place in Berlin, Germany, from Sept. 4 to 13.

According to the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF), the team held a training session lasting approximately two hours at the Turkcell Basketball Development Center National Teams Hall, under the direction of head coach Andrea Mazzon.

The session was attended by TBF President Hidayet Turkoglu, TBF Vice President Harun Erdenay, board members Dr. Gulsah Akkaya and Bahar Caglar Okten, and other federation officials.

The 20-player provisional roster includes Beren Burke, who plays for the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA, and Elif Istanbulluoglu, a player at Louisville University. Both are expected to join the camp in the coming days.

Match schedule

Türkiye has been drawn into Group C alongside Belgium, Australia and Puerto Rico. The team's group-stage schedule is as follows, with local Berlin kickoff times:

  • Friday, Sept. 4: Türkiye vs. Belgium, 17:30
  • Sunday, Sept. 6: Türkiye vs. Australia, 11:30
  • Monday, Sept. 7: Türkiye vs. Puerto Rico, 11:30
