Türkiye women's goalball team reaches World Championship semifinals

Türkiye's women's goalball national team advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 World Goalball Championship after edging past Brazil in a tense quarterfinal decided by penalty throws.

Goalball, a team sport for visually impaired athletes, brought another major result for Türkiye as the national side held its nerve after regular time and extra time ended 4-4.

Penalties carry Türkiye into last four

According to the Turkish Visually Impaired Sports Federation, Türkiye faced Brazil in the quarterfinal stage of the tournament held in Hangzhou, China.

After neither team could break the 4-4 tie during regulation and extra time, the match went to penalties. Türkiye then came out on top 3-2 in the shootout, securing a place in the semifinals.

The national team will now take on host nation China on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Türkiye time.

Men's team to play classification matches

Türkiye's Men's Goalball National Team, meanwhile, will continue in the classification stage after losing 6-2 to China in the quarterfinals.

The men's team will face Ukraine in its first classification match on Sunday at 10 a.m. Türkiye time.
