Türkiye women’s volleyball finishes group stage undefeated, advances to round of 16

Türkiye’s national women’s volleyball team dominated Canada 3-0 on Wednesday, finishing atop E Group at the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship. Türkiye will face Slovenia in the round of 16.
The match at Korat Chatchai Arena lasted 73 minutes, with Türkiye winning each set 25-21, 27-25, 25-13.

Türkiye controlled the first set after an early 6-6 tie, gradually building a three-point lead (13-10) and closing it 25-21 with contributions from Vargas, Karakurt, and Erkek.

In the second set, Canada started strong with a 3-6 lead. However, Türkiye equalized at 18-18 and eventually won 27-25, with Vargas’ service play proving decisive.
Türkiye dominated the third set, leading 12-6 at the midpoint and finishing 25-13 to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Historic achievement: For the first time since their 2006 debut at the Women’s World Championship, Türkiye finished the group stage undefeated, winning all three matches without dropping a set.
Captain Eda Erdem Dundar’s Milestone: Eda Erdem started in the lineup for the first time in the tournament during the Canada match, scoring 13 points and becoming Türkiye’s second-highest scorer in the game.
The Turkish squad now advances to face Slovenia in the round of 16, aiming to continue their historic run in the 2025 Championship.
