Türkiye's Muhammed Furkan Ozbek won the European Championship title in the men's 65 kg category. He broke his own European record in the clean and jerk to secure his sixth continental gold medal.
Competing on the second day of the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships held in Batumi, Georgia, Ozbek lifted 180 kilograms in the clean and jerk, surpassing his own previous European record, and finished with a total of 323 kg to take first place overall.
Ozbek lifted 143 kilograms in the snatch, which earned him a silver medal. His combined total of 323 kilograms in both lifts earned him the overall gold.
This win is Ozbek's sixth European Championship gold, highlighting his status as one of the most decorated active weightlifters in his weight class.
Teammate Ferdi Hardal also competed in the 65 kg category. He lifted 135 kilograms in the snatch to win bronze in the competition. Hardal finished fourth in the clean and jerk with 158 kilograms and secured the overall bronze medal with a combined total of 293 kilograms.
Thanks to Ozbek and Hardal, Türkiye's total medal count at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships reached 10, including 2 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze.
