VakifBank beats Fenerbahce to win Türkiye women's volleyball championship

VakifBank defeated Fenerbahce Medicana 3-1 to win the Sultanlar Ligi title.

The fifth and final match of the series took place at the VakifBank Spor Palace.

VakifBank won the first and third games of the five-match series. Fenerbahce won the second and fourth contests. In the deciding fifth match, Fenerbahce took the opening set 25-23.

VakifBank responded by winning the next three sets 29-27, 25-20, and 25-19. This victory marks the second consecutive championship for Vakifbank.

Markova earns series MVP award

Russian hitter Marina Markova received the Most Valuable Player award for the final series.

She played a central role in the championship victory. The match lasted 131 minutes. Erdal Akinci and Ebru Kaya served as the referees.

VakifBank utilized a roster including Derya Cebecioglu, Chiaka Ogbogu, and Cansu Ozbay. Zehra Gunes and Tijana Boskovic also contributed to the final result.

Guidetti secures 31st club trophy

Head coach Giovanni Guidetti earned his 31st total trophy with the organization.

He has led the team since 2008. This victory represents his 9th league title in Türkiye. The club reached its first championship in 1992.

It operated under the name Gunes Sigorta before various mergers formed the current organization.

Successes under Guidetti include:

  • The team won four FIVB Club World Championships.
  • The squad earned six CEV Champions League titles.
  • The club record includes seven Turkish Cups.
  • The organization holds five Champion Cups.

Fenerbahce suffers another final defeat

Fenerbahce Medicana competed in its sixth consecutive final series.

The team won the league in 2023 and 2024. They have finished as runners-up for the last two seasons. The squad previously faced Eczacibasi and VakifBank in these championship rounds.

The team has won two titles in its last six final appearances. This latest result extends their wait for a new league trophy.
