Recent media reports claiming that Warner Bros had filed a lawsuit against Fenerbahce footballer Kerem Akturkoglu over his “Harry Potter-style wand goal celebration” have been confirmed to be false.
The reports, which circulated in Türkiye, Portugal and Spain, suggested that Warner Bros sought legal action due to Kerem’s use of content allegedly resembling the Harry Potter franchise in his social media posts and goal celebrations. Some outlets claimed that the company had approached the Istanbul Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Court to file a complaint.
Following these claims, Turkish media outlet Aksam, reached out to the U.S. based Warner Bros Discovery to ask for clarification, including questions about which court would hear the case, the scope of the alleged lawsuit, and the amount of compensation reportedly sought from the player.
In response, the company’s legal department stated that “such content shared by popular individuals is considered natural, and no legal action is being taken.” To address media speculation, Warner Bros’ senior executives in the United States authorized Nurhan Ozer, the company’s Türkiye Public Relations Manager, to communicate the official position. Ozer reiterated:
"I am writing regarding the reports about Kerem Akturkoglu. The news circulating in the media does not reflect the truth. We wanted to inform you of the situation and wish you well."
Kerem Akturkoglu, known for his signature Harry Potter-inspired celebrations since his time at Galatasaray and later at Portugal’s Benfica, has continued performing the gesture at Fenerbahce matches. The celebration has been widely popular among fans and frequently referenced by the media, both in Türkiye and internationally.
