Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez continued her run at the Australian Open and reached the third round.
She defeated Hungarian player Anna Bondar in straight sets and recorded another first for Turkish tennis at a Grand Slam tournament.
The 23 year old won the second round match in Melbourne with scores of 6-2 and 6-4. She controlled the match from the opening games and maintained stability in her service games. Sonmez increased pressure in return games and held her score advantage from start to finish.
The result makes Sonmez the first Turkish tennis player to reach the third round of the Australian Open. She also achieved a similar breakthrough at Wimbledon and continues her rise on the Grand Slam stage.
Key match figures underline Sonmez’s control on court
She did not allow her opponent to establish a rhythm in return rallies and reduced errors during pressure points.
