A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Ankara, Konya and neighboring cities in central Türkiye.
There have been no reports of casualties or significant damage, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced Thursday.
According to Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the earthquake took place in Konya's Kulu district.
"A 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Konya's Kulu district. Regarding the earthquake, which was felt in surrounding provinces as well, all teams from AFAD and relevant institutions immediately began field assessments," Yerlikaya stated on social media. "As of now, there are no reports of adverse situations."
"I extend my best wishes to our citizens affected by the earthquake," he added. "May Allah protect our country and nation from disasters."
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavas also addressed the situation, confirming that the tremor was felt in the capital.
"The 5.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Konya was also felt in Ankara," Yavas said in a statement. "I extend my best wishes to all our citizens. As Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, we are closely monitoring developments and remain on alert with all our teams."
Emergency teams continue to assess the situation in the affected areas, while authorities have urged residents to remain calm and follow official guidance.
Türkiye, which sits on several active fault lines, has experienced devastating earthquakes in the past, most notably the February 2023 earthquakes that struck southeastern provinces.
