Injured opposition leader skips Abbas speech, attends session for imprisoned MP
Opposition leader Ozgur Ozel, who had skipped the previous day’s session where Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the Turkish Parliament due to a fractured foot, attended the session discussing the status of disqualified MP Can Atalay.
Ozel, the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), was seen at the session with his foot in a cast. This sparked speculation that his absence from Abbas’ speech was merely an excuse.
CHP Deputy Group Chairman Ali Mahir Basarir commented on Ozel’s absence, stating, “Ozel was eager to be present during Abbas’ speech, but he sustained a minor fracture. He is likely to be able to walk with orthopedic support under medical supervision in the coming days.”
