Several metro and funicular stations in Istanbul will be temporarily closed starting Saturday afternoon until further notice, according to a decision by the Istanbul Governor’s Office.

In an official statement, Metro Istanbul, the city’s metro operator, said select stations on the European side will be closed as of 3 p.m. local time (GMT+3) due to security precautions.

The affected lines are as follows:

  • Taksim Station (M2 Yenikapi–Haciosman Metro Line)
  • Sishane Station (M2 Yenikapi–Haciosman Metro Line)
  • F1 Taksim–Kabatas Funicular Line

The Governor’s Office decision comes in response to a planned rally by Türkiye’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), which announced it would hold a march on Istiklal Avenue at 7 p.m. in support of Palestinians in Gaza following recent Israeli attacks.
