Türkiye's main opposition party, the Republican People's Party (CHP), plans to challenge the new law on sheltering stray animals and euthanizing aggressive dogs with veterinary approval. The law has caused significant controversy, and the CHP intends to take the matter to the Constitutional Court.
CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel announced that the party will file an application this week, requesting a stay of execution. He expressed confidence that the Constitutional Court would promptly overturn the law.
In a statement on social media, Ozel criticized the law's passage despite widespread objections. He revealed that the CHP’s legal team and parliamentary group have prepared an extensive 180-page petition challenging the law.
Ozel urged mayors from all political parties to refrain from enforcing the law's controversial provisions until the Constitutional Court rules, warning that they could face both legal and moral consequences.
