Medya AS Board Chairman Murat Ongun arrested in IBB corruption investigation

Murat Ongun, Chairman of the Board at Medya AS, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), was arrested as part of a broad corruption investigation targeting the municipality, judicial sources confirmed on Sunday.

Medya AS Chairman, construction firm executive detained

Ongun and Tuncay Yilmaz, General Manager of Imamoglu Construction Company, were arrested following their appearance before the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace.

Their detention came after police procedures were completed and they were transferred to Istanbul's Caglayan Courthouse.

Widening investigation involves IBB Mayor, senior officials

The corruption probe, led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, involves IBB Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and 99 total suspects. The charges under investigation include:

Leading a criminal organization
Membership in a criminal organization
Bribery
Embezzlement
Aggravated fraud
Unlawful acquisition of personal data
Bid rigging

Authorities also continue investigating Imamoglu, IBB Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, Sisli Mayor Resul Emrah Sahan, and four others on suspicion of aiding the PKK terrorist organization.

Legal proceedings continue for other suspects

While Ongun and Yilmaz have been formally arrested, judicial procedures are still underway for additional suspects. Further decisions are expected as questioning continues.
