Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has recently updated Türkiye's Earthquake Hazard Map, identifying the provinces with the lowest seismic risk.

According to this latest revision, the safest areas in Türkiye have been pinpointed—and of course those locations are far away from active fault lines and with lower seismic activity. Türkiye, situated along several active fault lines including the North Anatolian, East Anatolian, and Western Anatolian Fault Lines, is known for its high earthquake risk.

Despite this, AFAD’s most recent research highlights 23 out of 81 provinces across the country that are considered to carry significantly lower earthquake risk.

23 provinces with the lowest earthquake risk

AFAD’s comprehensive analysis of Türkiye’s seismic zones has revealed which cities are most resilient to potential earthquakes. These provinces span various regions of the country and are seen as safer options both for residents and investors.

Here are the 23 provinces with the lowest earthquake risk in Türkiye:

  • Aksaray
  • Ankara
  • Antalya
  • Artvin
  • Bartin
  • Edirne
  • Giresun
  • Karaman
  • Kastamonu
  • Kirikkale
  • Kirklareli
  • Kirsehir
  • Konya
  • Mardin
  • Nevsehir
  • Nigde
  • Rize
  • Samsun
  • Siirt
  • Sinop
  • Trabzon
  • Yozgat
  • Zonguldak

These cities stand out as some of the most secure places in Türkiye when it comes to seismic safety.

AFAD’s updated earthquake map serves as an important guide for planning preventive measures, urban development, and making informed decisions about investments in potentially risk-prone regions.
