As the public debate over increasing Türkiye’s exit fee continues, objections are emerging within the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party).

The proposed increase in the exit fee is part of a new tax package that the AK Party plans to legislate before the parliamentary recess. Various alternatives are being discussed, especially regarding exemptions for students, pilgrims traveling for the Hajj and those engaged in border trade.

There is also consideration of postponing the move to increase the exit fee.

Under current regulations, individuals with residence permits abroad, crew members of commercial transport vehicles and children under seven years old are exempt from the exit fee.

Proposals will be reviewed at next week’s cabinet meeting.

“The claim that the exit fee will rise to ₺3,000 is completely false. Any increase will consider social sensitivities. The current fee of ₺150 does not align with economic realities. Postponing this adjustment until October is also an option,” AK Party sources stated.
