Hamas on Saturday said it firmly rejects all Israeli plans aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, including initiatives that envision using the Somaliland region as a potential destination.
In a written statement, Hamas also rejected the mutual recognition announced between Israel and Somaliland, describing the move as a dangerous precedent.
Hamas said the recognition was “an unacceptable attempt to gain false legitimacy from a fascist entity occupying Palestinian land,” accusing Israel of involvement in war crimes and genocide and facing growing international isolation.
The group reiterated its categorical rejection of any plans to forcibly relocate the Palestinian people, particularly proposals that would use Somali territory as a destination for residents of Gaza.
Hamas said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to recognize a separatist administration in Somalia reflects the depth of Israel’s international isolation due to alleged genocide crimes.
The statement called for continued international efforts to isolate Israel and hold its leaders accountable for crimes against humanity, urging stronger pressure at both popular and official levels.
As Israeli officials increasingly make public statements about plans to forcibly send Palestinians from Gaza elsewhere, Israeli media have reported claims that Palestinians could be relocated to African countries, including Somalia.
Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland as an “independent state” has heightened concerns that the move could pave the way for plans to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to the region.
Israel became the first country to recognize Somaliland, which declared unilateral independence from Somalia in 1991 but remains unrecognized by the international community.
