Hollywood director, actor Rob Reiner and wife found dead in Los Angeles residence

American director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner were found dead at their Southern California mansion on Sunday, according to reports from CNN and NBC.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said emergency crews responded to a medical assistance call at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time at a home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood in California.

Inside the residence, firefighters found a man and a woman, approximately 78 and 68 years old, deceased.

Police investigating possible homicide

The Los Angeles Police Department has assigned detectives from its Robbery-Homicide Division to the case. Police officials said the deaths are being investigated as a suspected homicide, but declined to provide details about the cause of death or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Identities not yet formally confirmed

During a media briefing Sunday evening, Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said authorities would not yet publicly confirm the identities of the two individuals found dead.

He said official identification will be released later by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner and added that no suspects are currently being interviewed.

Property records and family representatives, however, indicate the home belongs to Rob Reiner and his wife.

A spokesperson for the Reiner family confirmed the deaths and asked for privacy, describing the loss as sudden and devastating. Police said the bodies were discovered by a family member and interviews are ongoing as part of the investigation.

Rob Reiner rose to prominence as an actor on the landmark 1970s sitcom "All in the Family" before becoming an acclaimed director. His films include "This Is Spinal Tap," "Stand by Me," "The Princess Bride," "A Few Good Men" and "When Harry Met Sally."
