New York Jets defensive back Kris Boyd remained in critical but stable condition Sunday after being shot in the abdomen outside a Midtown Manhattan restaurant, according to the New York Police Department.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. outside Sei Less restaurant on West 38th Street, where Boyd, 29, was involved in a dispute that escalated into violence, the New York Post reported, citing law enforcement sources. Gunmen fired two shots before fleeing the scene in a BMW X8 SUV, while a Mercedes-Benz Maybach also left the area, according to the newspaper.

Boyd was transported by emergency medical services to Bellevue Hospital, where he was being treated Sunday. The NYPD said no arrests had been made and an investigation was ongoing. Police provided no additional details about the circumstances of the shooting or potential suspects.

Team and players respond to incident

A Jets spokesman confirmed the team was aware of the situation but declined further comment. Teammate Jermaine Johnson took to social media to ask for prayers, writing on X that he was asking the Lord to "hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety."

Boyd signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Jets during the offseason but has not appeared in a game this season after suffering a shoulder injury during the preseason that ended his year.

Career spanning multiple teams

The cornerback entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 and spent four seasons with the franchise before stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. He joined the Jets' roster primarily as a special teams contributor.

The shooting occurred in the heart of Manhattan's Garment District, an area that sees heavy foot traffic during evening and late-night hours.
