A magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck the central Philippines on Monday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey, with no immediate reports of injuries following the tremor.
The earthquake was recorded at 2:09 p.m. local time (0609 GMT) near the island of Samar, a major landmass in the central Philippines. Data from the USGS showed that the epicenter, the point on the Earth’s surface directly above where the quake originated, was located approximately nine kilometers from the coastal town of San Julian.
The tremor originated at a depth of 73.3 kilometers (45 miles), which is considered relatively deep.
Authorities did not immediately report any injuries or casualties following the earthquake. Initial information remained limited as officials continued to assess the situation in affected areas.
