North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un said the country’s military will face an expanding combat front and increased responsibilities, describing the current year as a major turning point for the nation.
Kim made the remarks during a congratulatory visit to the North Korean Ministry of Defense marking the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army (KPA).
During the visit, Kim addressed senior officials and members of the armed forces, highlighting the role of the military in implementing the policies of the Workers Party of Korea and supporting the country’s broader development process.
Speaking at the Defense Ministry, Kim thanked members of the armed forces for their success in carrying out the policies of the Workers Party of Korea, emphasizing the military’s contribution to the country’s development over the past five years.
Kim said the military played a decisive role in this process, stating that the achievements reached during this period would not have been possible without its involvement. He noted that the armed forces demonstrated exceptional performance last year, which contributed to strengthening confidence in the military.
According to Kim, both the public and the Workers Party of Korea have increased their trust in the armed forces as a result of these achievements. He said this growing trust has further motivated military personnel to pursue greater accomplishments.
Kim also addressed troops deployed outside the country, extending congratulations to commanders and soldiers of special operations units serving abroad. He praised those representing the country in distant regions and carrying out overseas missions.
“Especially, I congratulate the commanders and soldiers of the special operations forces who are carrying out duties abroad and representing our country in distant lands,” Kim said, referring to units sent to Russia to fight against Ukraine.
Kim said the increased trust in the military comes at a time of significant change, describing the current year as a year of major transformation for the country.
“This year is a year of great transformation. Our army’s combat front will expand further, and this will require more intensive efforts,” Kim said.
He added that the responsibilities of the armed forces will continue to grow, noting that the military’s role will become even more prominent in the coming years.
Kim said the next five years would be a period in which the unique role of the armed forces is further strengthened, emphasizing that the military will take on greater responsibilities during this time.
