Sudan's Ambassador to Ankara Nadir Yousif Eltayeb said the first step in the peace initiative submitted by the Sudanese government to the U.N. Security Council is a ceasefire and the disarmament of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with the process continuing through reconciliation, rehabilitation, and ultimately free and fair elections.

"These militias (Rapid Support Forces) must be disarmed," Eltayeb told state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) on Friday.

"We are also grateful to Türkiye, which welcomed and supported this initiative. Even in New York, Türkiye's Permanent Representative to the U.N. (Ahmet Yildiz) was very supportive, and we are truly grateful," Eltayeb said.

Peace initiative stages for Sudan

Ambassador Eltayeb explained that the peace initiative submitted by Prime Minister Kamil Idris to the U.N. Security Council represents the government's position on peace and its vision for achieving lasting peace in Sudan, and is in line with the roadmap announced by the government in 2025.

Eltayeb noted that the initiative and roadmap are also complementary to the "Jeddah Declaration" signed under U.S. and Saudi Arabian mediation, with the fundamental focus and starting point being achieving a ceasefire in the country.

"Any potential ceasefire should be monitored and supervised by the United Nations, African Union, and Arab League," Eltayeb emphasized.

In the second stage, the focus will be on the possibility of reintegrating those who have not committed any crimes into the armed forces or into society under the "Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration" program, Eltayeb said.

The safe return of displaced persons and refugees within Sudan or in neighboring countries can then be addressed, with humanitarian aid access to the entire country as the next step, also to be observed by the African Union, U.N., and Arab League.

Reconciliation and rehabilitation

Eltayeb emphasized the importance of the reconciliation process, noting that the social fabric has been severely damaged due to the war that has been ongoing for more than two years, and that some RSF members could be included in the reconciliation process between different tribes.

He noted the importance of restoring services including health and education to the people, which could be a step toward rebuilding trust between society and RSF members who did not commit crimes during the war.

"Regional and global conferences for peacebuilding could be organized, with participation being inclusive from political parties to civil society organizations," Eltayeb said.

"The final step will be holding free and fair elections in an inclusive manner. We will give opportunity to all political parties, forces, and even such military movements. Military movements will transform into political parties," Eltayeb said.

Civilian government fully in Khartoum

Eltayeb said the civilian government moved from Port Sudan to Khartoum this week, with all ministers in the capital and working there. Approximately 1.5 million people have also returned to Khartoum from Egypt and other regions of Sudan.

"Life is continuing positively in Khartoum. The government's return will encourage and support civilians to return to Khartoum as well," he said.

"Security forces are doing a great job ensuring Khartoum's security, with electricity being the main sector affected. They expect to restore 100% of electricity by June," Eltayeb added.

'Burhan's visit was very successful'

Eltayeb said Sudan Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan's visit to Türkiye on Dec. 25, 2025, was very successful, with Burhan wanting to thank President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Türkiye's political and humanitarian assistance to Sudan over the past two years.

"We think Türkiye wants to see a stable and strong Sudan. It is against any attempt to divide and destabilize Sudan and has become a true ally for Sudan during this time. This visit was very successful," he noted.

President Erdogan confirmed that Türkiye will continue its assistance and support for preserving Sudan's integrity, Eltayeb noted, adding that Türkiye continues to help expand humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people.

Eltayeb noted that Ziraat Bank has reopened in Port Sudan and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has started implementing projects.

Army: Hundreds of RSF neutralized, 240+ vehicles destroyed

The Sudanese Army announced that hundreds of RSF members were neutralized and more than 240 combat vehicles were destroyed in operations over the past week.

"Our air and ground units have conducted intensive operations against enemy (RSF) positions in Darfur and Kordofan and supply lines extending to southern Libya," the army statement said.

The statement noted that numerous strategic UAVs, concealment areas, and operating and control stations were destroyed at the airport in Nyala city, which was used as the headquarters of the "parallel" government established by the RSF.

"Field units have succeeded in repelling the RSF in large areas of Kordofan and Darfur, with operations continuing to completely neutralize the RSF in all areas," the statement said.
