Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted the importance of Russia's relationship with Türkiye following bilateral talks between President Vladimir Putin and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit Sunday.
Speaking to VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin, Peskov confirmed that Putin held extensive discussions with Erdogan during the summit in China. "You witnessed the bilateral negotiations in the president's residence, in the hotel where he stayed," Peskov said, referring to the meetings with Turkish President.
The Kremlin spokesman characterized Türkiye as among Russia's most significant allies, emphasizing the strategic value of the relationship. "This is a very important partner country for us," Peskov stated, underscoring the bilateral ties between Moscow and Ankara.
Peskov stressed the comprehensive nature of Russian-Turkish cooperation, noting that the partnership extends across various fields and geographic areas. "Very multifaceted relations in various fields" unite Russia with Türkiye, the spokesman said, adding that the leaders discussed "the largest projects that concern not only two countries, but the entire region."
The Kremlin official indicated that Putin and Erdogan had substantial matters to address during their meeting, focusing on initiatives with broader regional implications. Against the backdrop of their extensive partnership, Peskov noted, the leaders "had something to talk about" regarding projects spanning beyond bilateral concerns.
