Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday he hopes European countries will take into account what he described as the "reasonable approach" adopted by President Donald Trump's administration toward establishing dialogue.
Lavrov made the comments during a press conference in Moscow following talks with Mozambican Foreign Minister Maria Manuela Lucas, who was visiting Russia.
The Russian diplomat criticized European nations' current stance toward Moscow, saying they view Russia as an enemy, which he called concerning.
"I hope that Europeans will take into account the reasonable approach that the Trump administration has adopted toward establishing dialogue," Lavrov said.
During the joint press conference, Lavrov indicated Russia's readiness to consider requests related to strengthening Mozambique's defense potential.
He noted that Russia and Mozambique share similar approaches on many issues and expressed gratitude to the African nation for maintaining a neutral stance on Ukraine at the United Nations.
Addressing broader African affairs, Lavrov outlined Russia's position on continental issues: "As a member of the UN Security Council, Russia will continue to make efforts to create the necessary conditions for a fair solution to these issues. We will do this not through solution schemes imposed by external forces, but under the principle of 'African solutions to African problems.' This is the only solid path to such a solution."
Mozambican Foreign Minister Lucas emphasized the global impact of the Ukraine crisis, particularly on African nations dependent on Russian supplies.
"Russia provides us with fertilizer and food. Therefore, the crisis in question also affects Africa," Lucas said, adding that Mozambique remains grateful for Russian support.
