Russia warned Britain on Tuesday that it would face “consequences” for supplying drones to Ukraine that Moscow says have been used to strike targets inside Russian territory, while the British government said it would continue supporting Kyiv, Reuters reported.
The Russian Embassy in London issued the warning after The Times reported Saturday that British-made drones had been used for long-range strikes against Russia for the first time.
“London’s actions will inevitably carry consequences for which it will have to answer,” the embassy said in a statement posted on Telegram.
“The deeper its involvement in the conflict and the greater its support for Kiev’s terrorist machinery, the higher the price it will pay,” it added.
Britain’s Defense Ministry responded Tuesday by reaffirming its support for Ukraine.
“Britain stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine and we are committed to providing the equipment Ukraine needs to defend itself against Putin’s illegal invasion,” a ministry spokesperson said, according to British media.
“Russia should be in no doubt about the resolve of this Government to stand against Russian aggression, in Ukraine and against the UK and our allies.”
The ministry did not confirm whether British-made drones had been used in strikes inside Russia.
Ukraine has been using long-range drones to strike targets including Russian oil refineries and logistics facilities.
In June, Britain announced that it would provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a £752 million, or $996 million, funding package.
Moscow has repeatedly warned Britain and other Western countries since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine in 2022 that their military support for Kyiv, including equipment supplies, could trigger retaliatory measures and increase the risk of a broader confrontation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks late last month with Andy Burnham, becoming the first foreign leader to meet the new British prime minister after he replaced Keir Starmer.
Burnham reiterated Britain’s “unwavering” support for Ukraine during the meeting and told Zelenskyy: “We’ve got your back.”
The latest exchange between Moscow and London comes as Britain continues providing military equipment to Ukraine and Russia warns that deeper British involvement will carry consequences.
